Cancer Rehab
It doesn't matter what type and stage of cancer you are experiencing, cancer rehab can help you maximise your function, decrease your pain and bring back some of that all-important sense of control. Sessions are personalised to suit your individual needs. Funding may be available through the Cancer Rehabilitation Foundation (PINC & STEEL)
Treatments may include:
Exercise
Exercise is a wonder drug. There are NO negative side effects and a wealth of research to back up the benefits. Exercise can help to reduce a wide range of cancer treatment side effects, as well as boost the immune system and actually reduces the risk of cancer recurrence. It can be hard to get back into exercise after a cancer diagnosis and treatment. People often suffer from a loss of confidence in their body and don't know where to start - that's where Brae Physio comes in!
Hands-on Work
Cancer treatments can often cause tightness, stiffness or tension in the body. This may be caused by scar tissue from surgery, reduced physical activity and the effects of radiation. Gentle manual therapy such as massage, joint mobilisations and cupping can help to reduce pain and tightness and restore balance in the body. Vicky aims to have all patients walking out feeling better than when they walked in.
Advice & Education
You don't know what you don't know and there is so much information to take in while navigating cancer. Sometimes it's the small bits of advice on self treatment strategies, pacing or breathing that can make the biggest difference. Often people get to the end of their medical treatments and think, what now? It's easy to feel a bit lost without the right guidance. Vicky takes the time to listen to your problems and concerns and helps you come up with solutions.
Small Group Classes
Small, targeted group Pilates classes are available through The Cancer Rehabilitation Foundation. All patients that register will be eligible for a funded 6 week course that run subject to availability throughout the year. Patients find that this is an excellent stepping stone to get back into exercise and often make strong connections with the other class participants who are going through a similar journey.
"Exercise after cancer is associated with a reduction in cancer related death by up to 50%
